World's cheapest car to herald a new revolution

YES # Tata Nano is a landmark in the history of transportation by ultimately doing what other auto giants of the world failed to do.
# The people’s car, designed to meet all safety standards and emission laws and accessible to all, is surely a revolution.
NO # While the price has created a buzz, the vehicle will lead to millions more cars hitting the already clogged roads, adding to mounting air and noise pollution.
# Price competition will lead to more such vehicles from other players and hence safety standards will ultimately take a backseat.

Herald a new revolution?...yeah in fighting the ever frustrating traffic jams of India and yes also Al gore can think of tackling the global warming with some new and better technology. And yes India will be revolutionizing with all the dudhwallas going in new Tata Nano with more patients suffering from respiratory diseases. But wait what about the dudhwallas of Singur? Are they all killed in the police firing or did they get paid enough compensation for getting rid of their land and cows, etc. Also in the revolutionizing India I am getting impatient to see Taj Mahal turning black. Thanks Tata for coming up with something that others thought is impossible.

This truly is a revolution. This car is actually the People’s Car simply because it is within the budgets of people in India or to whichever country Tata may export it to. It provides great value for money and looks good as well.
Tata is a business house, the product is likely to be lapped up by people. Maintaining and creating infrastructure is not its job, the government should look into it. And all those people babbling the pollution slogan can go to the rainforests in Africa, give me the name of one commonly used mass product that is ecofriendly, folks, the electricity you use everyday surely isn’t even if it comes from renewable sources (consider the process tree). So Inspector you can put your worries to rest.
Numerouno This car is infact a superior product. All major automakers, whether from US, Japan or anywhere else, have been on record saying that such a car is not possible. Tata has made possible what was impossible to them even with deep pockets and superior technical knowledge.

All discoveries started with blasphemies, but no longer, the one lakh car is a reality now. It’s certainly ushered a new era in the field of technology and commendable efforts of Ratan Tata to reach out to the common masses. But yes inspector is too pessimistic in his approach, but surely such people are needed for the improvement.

The Tata’s have already asserted that it (Nano) ain’t standing at a race with M800 or others, rather it’s targeted for those who would prefer taking a two wheeler. Hence, we may say that it’s a kinda boon for those who may make their dreams a reality of owning a branded car of course at an affordable price but have to use it wisely and economically.

World’s cheapest car also nicknamed people’s car and to give it a political touch like Lalu parsad yadav - Janta ki gadi (car of the masses)...is not going to revolutionize but rather kill the poor janta of India or whosoever buys this soap case. being a TATA Motors customer myself (i own an Indica) their service sucks! They will sell the car for cheap and recover the costs by the way of service and spares...the cost of maintenance of TATA cars is very high compared to Maruti/honda/Mahindara. So the world’s cheapest car will ultimately cost higher than the usual better car that emphasizes on security and things like that ...of course TATA don’t know a sh** i am talking abt.

This is surely a betrayal to the people in the name of security. A plastic car not cost effective but cheap, literally. Well this is nothing more than a try similar to that of Icarus who tried to fly with the waxwings but now India will blot the roads, I hope not, but let us just wait who becomes the first Icarus lolzzzzz.

This is not a PLASTIC CAR. NO plastic parts glued together and named CAR and if it were let me tell you it wouldn’t be the WORLD’S CHEAPEST CAR coz in Formula 1 they use plastics of course reinforced with fibers that break into pieces after collision with a purpose to spread the shock of the collision that takes momentum out of the collision.
So do you think this $ 2500 car be using sophisticated techniques like these to pass the energy from a collision? i don’t think so, if you think the metal car is better than reinforced fiber car to speed up on the motorway then I think Brad you need to shave your beard…this is seriously hampering the functionality of your brain. Statistics say the causes of fatalities are not just a strong structure and airbags but also the power of the vehicle itself for example many SUV allow thousands of horsepower and the collision is itself hazardous.

Tata Nano will surely be a craze among people within budgetary limitations. With this revolution, cars are no longer a luxury but certainly will be a need just like having a cell phone.
With possible problems, odd-even schemes can be used to avoid traffic jam. Use of alternative gas like biodiesel instead of crude oil may be considered to avoid pollution, too much spending or scarcity of oil resources.
To reduce accidents, issuance of driver’s license should be more stricter and traffic regulations should be properly executed. Collision is brought about by human error and has nothing to do about the volume of cars. Safety precautionary measures need to be taught to the drivers.
The rising population as well as increasing number of cars is inevitable. Infrastructure among countries should also be looked upon with the possible problems of overcrowding in the streets due to more cars available.

This is an impossible thing made possible by Tata. The car conforms to the highest world standards in pollution and safety. Besides, this car is also fuel-efficient.
With this car on market, we can see many small budget people who would buy a two-wheeler for a personal vehicle would buy this car instead. This would also result in a drop in bike accident deaths, which is one of the worst killers on Indian roads.
I see something funny too with the car hitting the roads. The auto rickshaw manufacturers may be hit. An auto rickshaw costs over 2 lacs and in some cases over 3 lacs on road. This car may prove to be a boon for those auto rickshaw drivers, should the government give the go ahead to use it as a commercial vehicle.
Anyway, thee cheers to the Nano.

There is no denying the fact that the peoples car could be a phenomenon, it is a sheer exemplification of Indian technical knowhow and engineering. Out from the house of TATA, Nano speaks volumes of it’s shape and size, putting across the idea of doing away with the two wheel traffic from the roads making it the cheapest car is just worth appraisal. But the country that houses the car making rage in the automotive world, is it really ready for this? Given the traffic congestions, the road conditions, and more importantly the parking space - have we got the desired infrastructure to actually accommodate the new revolution that may be herald?

Of course Tata’s Nano would herald a revolution in Indian auto market. This is being said in media reports that Rs 1-lakh car may soon become the car of choice for taxi operators and it might replace auto rickshaws from Indian roads. Several taxi operators had postponed their plans to buy Indica and other small cars and waited for Tata’s Nano. It could also give the auto rickshaw manufacturers a run for their money. The reason is crystal clear, as it needs Rs 1.4 lakh on road (ex-showroom) to buy an auto rickshaw and now the same people would get batter model in just Rs one lakh. It would cost one lakh twenty-four thousand on road for consumers. Is this not a revolution? :-)

Well, Dhirubhai Ambani’s Reliance Infocomm’s 500-rupee mobile revolutionized Indian mobile industry. He got a mobile in the hands of the people who belonged to the lowest rungs of economic strata and largely because of this India has the world’s second largest mobile users.
This car may well do the same for the Indian lower middle class.
Coming to Bharat’s reservations, I agree that we might not have the infrastructure. But then, as necessity is the mother of inventions, so are solutions to problems. On the contrary, with more cars on the road, we might see an increase in the efforts of government to launch more and increase the networks public transportation system such as the Delhi Metro, which has been a major hit, and also better parking lots, not only in commercial places, but in residential societies as well.

A cheap car definitely, but surely will add to the woes of increasing traffick problems. Very soon more and more companies will start making such cars and I wonder if there would be any leg space left in Delhi. This is democracy but surely government should make one day as ”No car on the roads” day to decrease the pollution levels to some extent.
