# Proton is planning on teaming up with manufacturers in Iran and Turkey to create the ‘Islamic car’.
# The car boasts special features like a compass pointing to Mecca and a dedicated space to keep a copy of the Koran and a headscarf.
# Proton using distinct marketing tool by raising religious spirit has found a huge gap in the market.

What has a car to do with Islam, by the way? Of course, there I have no reason not to drive the car and no reason to drive it too. So, I would not drive simply because it is Islamic or refuse to drive for that reason.
I have utmost respect for Islam, but a car has nothing to do with it. To be driven it has to be a good car. Isn’t it a bit insane to connect these two things? Just wondering. May be there is, but I fail to get to it as yet.

Proton is a company in trouble. Car sales have gone down and the company now wants to pick them back up by appealing to the religious instincts of people.
Car accessories for the ’religion’ minded are available in the market, those who want them can buy them, but never before have they come as standard factory equipment. Proton most likely wants to use the ’opium of the masses’ to fulfill its ulterior motive.
Is the company going to use proceeds from this car to help those who are needy, uneducated and hungry in the Islamic world? No. All of the money will go to help put this dying carmaker back into the market.

Certainly not. Not because the word Islamic is attached to the car but because the manufacturer has got an absolutely ridiculous idea to boost its sales.
though McHaik has beautifully defended the idea but to me it seems that it will only alienate the Muslims from society. Just check some of the forums on the web and you will come to know how the word ’Islam’ attached to the car has created an uproar. and selecting instablogs as a platform to let my voice heard is simply because i don’t see the insanity, staunchness and very propaganda of Islamophobia given any priority here. keep that UP.

Yes i will... no problem with that as long as it’s better than my Fiat 500. Proton is targeting Muslims and that too the insane Mullahs in Iran who came up with the idea.
the insanity of the Mullahs inspired the Proton so much that they are now thinking of making the car?
what they (Mullahs in Iran) want is propagate their idea that all the Muslims are hated by people around the world and this car when comes to market will exclusively owned by Muslims will prove their point. if the car is better there’s no harm in buying the new Proton whether the car is called Meccar or RDX or Qarran. where there’s a place for Quaran in the dashboard i’ll place Bible and no harm in knowing what direction Mecca is or Is it?

Definitely, i like the idea very much. I have even suggested a few names to Proton, but they have rejected them. I suggested 911 but it is already taken by Porsche, then i suggested naming it after its main cargo C4, but someone has taken that too. I like Tobysinclair’s idea, now we will call it RDX. We will also ask them to include a special mechanism that will automatically stop the car 5 times a day, that will make it a complete car.

yes, at least i am relived it won’t blow up occasionally but just a query- will they allow their wives to drive the new Proton?
one more thing is that hard to make the car an Islamic one? it’s that simple - place a compass that points mecca regularly and same goes for the Quaran and headscarf. Proton’s management is missing the point here or rather the plot. Dunno what. confused.

Dear McHaic,
The idea of religious and pious thoughts is all very well. But perhaps Quran sharif (the holy Koran) would not make much of difference to those who think in a certain way. RDX still remains the central theme of an Islamic car, ask Osama.
RDX, I am sure, is not what the Islam preaches, and the car will not be driven by a religion but by its practitioners.
But, again, a car and Islam? Aren’t they as different as non-existent dianasours and the possiblility of water on a planet yet to be found on a galaxy we have never heard of so far? (Have I gone too far?)

Definitely, what a great idea! Hopefully, there would be a ’convertible’ version of the Islamic coming up in the near future. Then, I can keep the Bhagavad Gita and other Hindu symbols in the space that is reserved for the Koran, etc. and mod the compass that can point towards Varanasi.
The Islamic car can go a long way promoting different religions of the world.
Way to go Turks!

Lets have ’Brahmin Car’, ’Rajput Car’ and many more designs of cars to respect different castes existing in India.

Cars should be for general purposes and not for religious status. They should be used by all regardless of religion. Although having branded ”Islamic” cars is one way of gaining public perception of the existence of Muslim’s style and fashion. This is a way of exemplifying unity in diversity and a trend indeed that other religions will soon follow. Afterall, we belong in this world with equality in all freedoms to express our own beliefs and opinions.

Being Islamic is not anti-humanity.
As one who deeply respects the knowledge assembled in religions, an Islamic car would symbolize the faith one holds in the good that this religion has about a fair world order.
But the manufacturers seem to have ulterior motives of targeting a particular religious community to boost sales.
In the ongoing crusades, an Islamic car on a New York street is open defiance of the New World Order and one may not be able to safely drive around without attracting unsolicited hostilities.
For the faithful, a Koran on your dashboard will activate tolerance towards a universal brotherhood.
It will help keep the pair of hands behind the wheels off vice and act as a constant reminder that one has to come around and face Allah, someday.

one more thing is that hard to make the car an Islamic one? it’s that simple - place a compass that points mecca regularly and same goes for the Quaran and headscarf. Proton’s management is missing the point here or rather the plot. Dunno what. confused.

Besides,
the insignia on the bonnet is flashy enough for one to want to own an ’Islamic car’.

Jonty, I think you are very close to committing blasphemy (or have you committed already?). Your comment might be seen as a ’comment’ in the other sense. I hope the fatwa is not coming your way. I am just jealous; it would make you famous, man.

OK...What a nice idea to respect religions.. You drive your ’Islamic Car’, I would drive my ’Hindu Car’ and I would definitely suggest my friend John to drive his ’Christian Car’ and Gurpal Singh to drive ’Sikh Car’..Wait.. I have many friends from other religions such as Jainism, Buddhism etc... AND why we should forget the caste lines if talking about India.. Lets have ’Brahmin Car’, ’Rajput Car’ and many more designs of cars to respect different castes existing in India.
Is not it a conceptual bankruptcy that would definitely widen the gap...

Hey Pratyush, How about a Hindu, Brahmin LXE? And a Hindu, Rajput Bermuda? And a Christian Catholic LoganT? These are just the names of the models I could think of.
