YES
# Some journalists and even some news organizations have acknowledged that their coverage during the prewar months was far too deferential and uncritical.
# Media corporations have become more powerful and assist in manipulating public opinion by compromising editorial independence.
NO
# When compared with governments, media lacks intelligence inputs that could assist in dispelling lies like Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq.
# Historic challenges to openness and government oversight stand in the way of bringing the public the ‘real facts.’

Media is becoming infamous these days for hiding the facts and working on the indications of bosses sitting in powerhouses of democracy. Media is no doubt a powerful instrument to create public opinion but it can’t go against popular thoughts on any matter.

This is an advice to fellow journalists and businessmen making money via media houses that don't just give us the scary facts; either show us the path forward or sit tight with lips locked. We need to read or view the truth that is real, not the truth you make on editing tables. Why don’t you people do more to educate the viewers? Is there any need to tell people every time before anything that something is bad? Good things get second priority all the time.

Media or uncritical media, You can hate it but can't live without it because after all its your voice. manipulation of public opinion is sometimes necessary to show the fact hidden behind the 'truth'. Editorial should be written in the way what is needed in any particular issue be it war or any other controversy.

The power of the media can never be questioned. Whatever information we have of the world today is through the media—be it the internet, the radio, TV or the newspaper. In fact sometimes it is an information overload or more appropriately information fatigue—when hundreds of 24×7 news channels telling you the same story and showing you the same visuals over and over again ad nauseam, numb, thousands of newspapers reading the same story with different styles and millions of sites generating same contents with rewriting, paraphrasing . I must be profoundly say we are living in a newsy world. But how many newspapers or news channels even bother to go behind the scenes to do a good investigative report? Journalism is profession, not practice

Today, we hear misleading rhetoric coming from Bush Administration but i must agree that the fault lies with the Media esp. Fox news and BBC for providing such misleading information to ppl to make a common ground to attack Iraq. For not understanding the facts despite the mistakes that have been made, shameless Bush can still rant abt Iraqis needing American help in building their democracy to keep us safe from the terrorist attacks.
See what has happened for you guys remained busy in money making and trying new ploys to increase your TRPs. you are all responsible.

Media corporations have reduced their commitment to journalism and fails comprehensive analysis to bring the public the real facts and this is why you all are responsible for millions already dead in Iraq.

Media manipulation is not good for democracy. It might create anarchy where everyone would talk in utter nonsense.

In his speech, Bush cited incidents of terror in various countries and pointed to them as reasons to pursue the war in the Middle East. He called the fight a struggle "between civilization and terror, good and evil, freedom and slavery, and life and death” He fooled us and media supported him. What a shame!!

No, because despite the fact that the US media whipped up a nice anti-terror (read anti-Islam) frenzy after 911 that gave Bush a carte blanche to do whatever he wanted. However, on the buildup of the Iraq war, bush not only squandered all international support, the US politicians opposing Bush’s plans took maximum media coverage to highlight that whatever he was doing was illegal, costly and deadly. Even the Congress and the Senate had strong opposing voice. The Dumb American public didn’t do much apart from taking out marches here and there.
They only got the shock when they saw the continuous flow of body bags coming from Iraq. That still wasn’t enough to win Bush a comprehensive victory for a second term in the presidency.
The media has never been as critical about Bush’s botched Iraq war as it was then during the presidential campaign in 2004, yet, he won.
The blame of the Iraq war goes directly to the fundamentalist Christians and neo-cons from the Bible belt of US of A. Even Bush is a radical Christian fundamentalist militant. And, they all supported him...

thanks to the Republican Party Media Network! FOXFox News is shit. I don't care what they do, who they support, etc. They've ruined anything they might have had going for themselves by pandering to one side of the crowd, and I hope they pay for it someday.

Completely disagree with Jonty from India, who happens to be Instablogs member too. How can you say the US media whipped up a nice anti-terror, or anti-Islam, whatever you say, frenzy after WTC attack and gave Bush a carte blanche to do whatever he wanted. For your kind information, US media criticized Bush more than any other media organization based even in the east. Forget Al-Jazeera..it is seems to be the mouthpiece of Osama.

Media losing commitment to the profession of journalism and owners are using it as mere practice to earn money. Who cares what the real facts are, just show the facts what superiors tell to do. If you are ready to be sold, don't talk about honesty with others.
