Tourism of doom: Traveling to endangered destinations should be banned
No # Travel can help preserve destinations, as local people learn that there is more economic value in preserving nature for tourists than in farming or timber harvesting.
# Visiting endangered places does make one appreciate the natural world and its importance to us, and at this point in time in the earth’s history it’s very important.
Yes # It’s about the world being spoiled and the impulse of the tourism industry to sell us on getting there before it is too late, before other people spoil it.
# We feel we make a positive influence through fees, purchases and contributions as tourists but it’s unfortunate that in our pursuit of doing that, we actually contribute to the problem due to the way we traveled there.

should travelers be banned from visiting such sites or should China or USA cut their co2 emissions.Do you want ppl to sit back, close their eyes and imagine their favorite vacation spot? Do you think it is because of the travelers that we are witnessing our favorite destinations in the endangered zone?

it is such a dreadful thought to be entertained. travelers and tourists, who have loved and appreciated the beauty of earth are no way responsible for the damage done to the environment and if they want to visit places before it’s gone...they should be allowed because there’s no way China, India and USA for the sake of their economic development restrict their co2 emissions. whether we ban the tourists from going to places-endangered>>IT IS NOT GOING TO HELP.

yes it should be banned. travel industry is hugely responsible and contributing to the problem of Global warming and as we today witness the trend ”Tourism of doom” one can clearly see how desperate are the tourists to walk or trample the last beautiful things on earth under their feet. i must add SELFISH.

@Sumitmahajan

Do you think it is because of the travelers that we are witnessing our favorite destinations in the endangered zone?

why do you think they are not? let me explain >> this is an excerpt from WASHINGTONPOST.COM answering your doubts>> ”Traveling in ever-higher numbers on a planet where virtually every new snowmobile, jumbo jet, cruise liner, Winnebago, hot tub and air-conditioned hotel ballroom draws power ultimately from oil, gas or coal. These fuels, once burned, add directly to the CO2 load threatening the very destinations people love to visit.”

I think tourism industry is responsible in selling the travel packages to places where ppl shouldn’t go anymore because beyond the obvious these climate-related changes will have a dire impact on many sectors of the travel and tourism business. So these selfish morons in the travel industry are only trying to cash in the opportunity before we say final goodbye to glaciers and snowlines. Go on ppl squash whatever is left…be the last one to see your loved destinations.

@Inspector
SELFISH that’s the word.

Why should you ban traveling in endangered destinations? How can awareness be established if we keep on repressing to show the natural wonders of a certain region?

Do you really know what tourism is really all about if endangered destinations are banned? Can you not set guidelines for the visitors?

I suppose people are not that stupid if they will know visiting a particular place will risk their lives.

Punish the violators; but never snatch the rights of people who would like to travel. Set specific criteria to guide the travelers what they need or need not do.

Surely this is an encroachment in areas which woefully is resulting against natural balance. And in tech era whatever we do with the help of technological advancement, adds fuel to the fire e.g. traveling by jet to see the icebergs contributes to global warming, which makes the icebergs melt faster than usual and irony becomes even graver when those who want to see these natural beauties before they finally disappear, unknowingly add to make it the thing of past. Poor chaps who talk too much about global warming and are in hurry because they fear that as long as they will reach the North Pole or Mount Kilimanjaro, ice will altogether be missing but don’t know that they are even a party in that natural filth.

Yup… things’re made worse by the people who make hue and cry against it… tourism industry, hotels , travel industry and frenzy to live in that supreme pleasure…huh making that extinct earlier for you and to the others to see again. and the shit that these travel agencies and the tourists do is an irreparable damage to the ‘mother nature’ whom about even Wordsworth once observed that the real mother can even betray… but mother nature takes every one in its lap, betrays none… but what the children are doing … don’t ask me to let you know.

It’s just the travel industry’s hyped marketing of these places. How many tour operators actually insist that the tourists stay in eco-friendly hotels as a part of the package they offer? If we cannot protect the place, we have no right to contribute to the destruction. If at all one has to visit the place, do so with the awareness of how much you could be actually contributing to the disaster.

can’t we go and see how badly are we destroying the endangered sites? i think this should not be banned but rather ppl should see what damage has beeen done by us. I peronally feel that by seeing the damage with our own eyes, we can realize how important is it to protect our environment. this for sure raises our awarness to protect our nature that one cannot realize unless he/she’s living in the same surroundings where it is hard to see any environmental change.
