Should patients with unhealthy lifestyles be taxed?
YES # Patients who lead an unhealthy lifestyle should be denied treatment and taxed more.
# We have a responsibility to be healthy and why should taxpayers fund unhealthy lifestyles of irresponsible citizens.
NO # Taxes should be increased on cigarettes and alcohol rather than patients with unhealthy lifestyle.
# Government should not be biased.
# Citizen’s lifestyle reflects the ‘being’ of that State and hence equal health services should be provided irrespective of patient’s background.

Yup that’s correct. Those with the unhealthy lifestyle are depriving others with the health facilities who would have been benefited with those opportunities that they have grabbed otherwise. To avoid this we need to take some actions that someone may call as biased or whatever, but its necessary to make those unruly people realize that they have the utmost responsibility to be fit and fine and not adopting the lifestyle that will damage their health and can deprive others of health services.

ain’t are they putting chains on freedom. they are, certainly. This is surely a bad idea to hike the service tax on those who are with the unhealthy life style, bit bizarre! yes, so before providing the health services to the needy man should we discover the lifestyle… this is the biased segregation and surely a way to screw people twice… for they already pay taxes like others and therefore deserve to be treated when they are in dire need… isn’t it?

If one is not acting responsibly, why should anyone else pay for the damages caused by the person. Let the person pay. But this question is not very relevant for a country like India where public health services are in no good condition. Here even if you are suffering with serious diseases that have nothing to do with your irresponsibility, you are very lucky if you can get treated and cured in government hospitals. Everyone in the country has to go to private hospitals for treatment. One goes to a government hospital only if he/she can’t afford treatment in private hospitals.

Yes, they should be denied of any incentives/rebates provided by government hospitals. When even insurers count these factors while calculating premium, why not health services, it is a serious issue and certainly eats up a lot of chunk of (taxpayers’) government money in the name of ’healthy society’, which, apparently, most of the time do not care while gobbling up all that ’tasty’ junk food!

Taxing those with unhealthy lifestyle will not ease their problem. But rather it will make things worse. We can only make regulations but we should not tax them. This is unfair.

Everyone has a choice to what lifestyle he wants to indulge in. We can only provide cautions and suggestions. However, if the individual still insists to live a life of misery, then let him suffer the consequences of his actions.

In terms of health services, campaigns should be intensified so that individuals are aware of the consequences of their eating behavior and health lifestyle. Help them and don’t punish them by adding more taxes.

Just like any other problem, eating is an addiction, then shouldn’t people who smoke, drink and take drugs be paying additional tax. Controlling vices with taxes is a far fetched idea!

No. I say no not for any other reason, but that there will probably be an uprising if unfit people are denied medical facilities! In today’s world of fast food, couch potatoes and computer addicts, who is really leading a healthy healthstyle?
