Seize of more than 400 children, most of them girls, in raid on the compound of a polygamist sect - The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS), has again fueled the debate around religious sects and the role they’re playing in maintaining the social and religious harmony in the contemporary world.

Shameful!!! Children were being bartered as sex slaves and the most shocking thing was that they were trying to hide and shield it under the cover of freedom of religion. It is unacceptable in the civilized society.

God’s wisdom or the Higher Power...whatever u call it but these cults are a bunch of horse doo-doo. i don't have the brains to understand what is the relation between spirituality and god. why has the spirituality to come through God?
I have a cousin who's really into yoga because his Indian-born wife teaches that equally nonsensical garbage before getting started for the daily routine. first they concentrate on the photo frame mounted on a table in one corner of the hall and then asks the bearded man in the photo to give them healing powers. its all nonsense. Pity them.

Nothing new, it has been happening for years and years. Polygamy has been openly practised in the Mormon sect. They brainwashed girls to be subservient, and to become instrument for sexual pleasure for the male hierarchy. Such girls and women live in a psychological jail where any kind of independence are like anathema.

Religious Freedom??? What are you talking about? There is no absolute right to freedom of religion. The Judicial system should take responsibility and assess the reasonableness of conduct of such religious sects. This is necessary step to protect people and society from religious evils.

I believe in religion but not in such practices in any religious sect, which destroys the institution in the name of religion. Children always become soft target and pays for the sins of adults. They suffer a lot in the name of such religious practices.

It was a like revelation to me. I was completely clueless that polygamy was still in practice in the country like the USA. Americans pride themselves on being the most civilised country in the world. Why didn't the US government take any strict against these communities till date?

Look who is talking against Polygamy, a guy from Iran, I am surprised enough and I have no words to say anything on it. The champions of polygamy are writing against polygamy and accusing USA for not taking strict action against it till now. Do we need suggestions from you dude? NO..

In Islam, Polygamy is one of the most debated theory. People criticise Islam for allowing a man to have four wives. In Quran, Polygamy has a reason. POlygamy is correct for a couple if the wife is barren and husband wants children without separation, if a woman is chronically ill and unable to perform his family duty. Quran gives instructions to the man to be fair with his wives on every levels.

Poor Children, they have been forcefully trained to remain silent with outsiders. It would be tough for the girl children to open mouth against sect in court. Administration is also afraid of stepping in the religious matter.

I can bet Police wouldn't be able to identify the girl who made call to them. All the efforts to find the girl are hampered because those women and children, who are in custody, are related to one another. They even share similar names or titles. It is all useless exercise by Police.

religion has always been controversial owing to the diverse meanings of spirituality and even more diverse references of the origin of particular religion. it all starts with sects to finally become religion. Bhuddhism started off as a sect to become a religion and i don't see any reason to blame religious sects killing the sanctity of religious freedom.

Religious sects are ultimately being politicized. But they try to make it a point that religious freedoms are protected. The factors contributing to the disorientation of religious freedoms are the external forces that drive away and influence the principles of the religious sects.

Religion comes from the word religato - a latin root which means to tie. It does the opposite. Religion is the first cause of fanatical turmoil in many countries.

It is sad but nevertheless quite true that religious sects have a large number of manpower and finances at their disposal. If this is coupled with a semblance of political power, they are able to propagate their own particular brand and dis all the other religions. This is ultimately a blow to religious freedom. Force conversions are becoming quite a norm around the world. Is that not a testimony of the unfortunate power of religious sects.

Yes. In Islam, the Wahabbi sect is the mother of Al Qaeda.
