Plastic Tsunami cometh , Can we fight back?
# Plastic pollutants are disrupting the ecology of the world’s waterways, creating massive ocean ‘dead zones’ where aquatic life cannot survive.
# The economic impact is already being felt in the fishing industry and many forms of marine life are at risk.
# The vast swath of oceans is full of plastic stew that is entering the food chain causing obesity, infertility...and worse.
# An ever-increasing demand from industries like automotive, packaging and consumer durables is increasing the demand for the high-end machinery and components needed in the manufacturing of plastic products.
Are we helpless to stop the devastating effects of plastic in the ailing environment? Have we gone too far and hence recycling too cannot curb the menace? Is it a lost war now?

Plastic has become problematic now. In India 50 percent of packing is being done with plastic material by replacing the traditional paper, cotton and jute bags. Dumping of solid wastes by not isolating plastic wastes for land fillings became hazardous. There are high chances of loosely bound carcinogenic chemicals, leaking into ground water from the solid wastes. Throwing away the plastic bags at street corners and on roads became threat to stray animals. Plastic bags left over at Beaches became threat to marine creatures.

At the same time, in India the usage of plastic per head is only 1.6 Kilo Grams. India is far better with the plastic related problems, when we compare with countries in western part of the Globe. In developed countries, the usage of recycled plastic is 30 percent and it is 5 percent in India. People have started talking about the use of recycled plastic but the environmentalists and Nutritionists have opposed the idea because usage of recycled plastic would surely harms the health condition of human beings. ’No use of Plastic’ is the sole mantra in the battle against the Plastic Tsunami.

The debate between development and environment is unending. The danger comes when we adopt an extreme view. Rather, a holistic approach is required to deal with the menace of environmental degradation. The civic bodies, all over the world should take active interest in disposing of plastic wastes. We should encourage the use of plastic in a constructive way such as using it as building material to contain seepage. The recycling of the waste plastic products is not enough to contain the menace. It should rather be buried and use as landfills. However, the debate should continue so that the users are more enlightened about the potential danger of economic degradation.

Nothing is a lost war ever, until one surrenders. Of course by this I don’t wish to dismiss the whole issue; but only wish to change the attitude.

When environmental issues came in limelight, the plenipotentiaries dismissed it as threat to development and took an fatalist approach towards it. It is even prevalent to some extent today.

People talk about the miraculous Mother Earth, forgetting that Nature will not remain the same if we don’t try to maintain the harmony.

Some steps have been taken to prevent the catastrophe, but they are minimal in front of the demand. And need for much effort to be taken.

We can not pass our duty and garbage to the underdeveloped countries, as has been done by the big powers. Throwing of outdated computers in name of passing technology is one way of evasion, other has been availability of cheap labor. Nigeria is an example of former, China and India are examples of the latter.

Even passing of polluting industries to developing nations in the name of globalization; without invoking the carbon credit system shows the attitude of ours thinking the artificial boundaries to be the real borders.

But , reiterating, still much can be done before the apocalypse happens.

There was an article about designing organic clothes . Organic hmmm biodegradable hmmm no pollution !

Why dont we design organic ’plastic’ which is supplied in abundance to the masses at cheap price so that as soon asthey degrade , the owner can get a new brighter one ...

Innovation keeps things alive

The answer lies in morale of question ”Have we gone too far?”.....We can at least stop it where it is at present. Just time to sacrifice your little convenience for the sake of nature.

It may be that the statistics are gettin worser, it may be that our lives have been infected with the bug called ’plastic’ but ’a good fight back’ is all that we need indeed...!

A war not won is a war never lost!!!

However, it is a fact that nothing can be reversed as reversal means getting ’static’ which we mankind can never tolerate...

But things can be changed with a changed outlook and all we need to do is alter our perspectives a li’l...

The situation hasn’t become worst yet and we can still fight back...!!!we need to make sure that we don’t go ahead from here..!!!

Much can be done and as far as my observance goes...people all over the world have started taking the issue seriously enough eliminating plastic from their lives...not by dumping it here and there..but by getting back to jute and other reusable material..!!!!

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE...!!!:)
