space spending
# Investing more in high end satellites will help us monitor Earth’s atmosphere, oceans and ice caps.
# The experts suggest that rather than preparing for some distant future when human beings might have to flee our planet, we might be better off trying to maintain the one we have.
# The U.S. has announced it will pull out of the ISS program by the end of 2015 as a completed project won’t be fit enough for long-term use as a research platform along with a growing number of critics (including the National Research Council) characterize the ISS’s worth as scientifically dubious.

One has to take a holistic view. No doubt, the housing project for the poor needs urgent attention and require priority but it does not mean we should abandon advancement in the realm of science and neglect the development in all the spheres.

It would be far better if instead of spending such a big amount on space research we spend it on saving our environment rather than monitoring it!

I’m not an absolute critic of advancement in science and technology, which is surely gonna help future generations in a great way, but equally we cannot just ignore the bleak present that a large number of poor nations are experiencing. Therefore it’s something like choosing between an advance future and could be worth livin present.

Not sure abt. others, but I’ll even without a second thought go for the latter option…………….

Spending Millions and millions in search of a world that is only heard of and call it logical ...huh!

I think space research is not just about sending Sunitha Williamses and Kalpana Chawlas just for the sake of it. And it’s not just Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI) either. Space research is much more important than that. Climate and natural disaster predictions save millions of lives in the coastal areas every year.

It’s just because of space research that we have become aware of (at least I hope so) the menace of green house effect. Repeated warnings forced scientists to take note of the graveness of the danger and work on a solution. Just imagine, there is no space research and all of a sudden, polar ice starts melting, creating a deluge and you have no time to react!

Of course, space research should not come at the cost of say, housing project for the poor. Who said, a country needs to sacrifice one to continue the other? Why don’t people take note of the fact that despite their laggard economy, so many countries are spending fortune in the name of defence? We should stop blaming spending on space research as the cause for lack of development in other projects.

Earlier when we’re not aware of our Environment then Space Research played a very Important role. We came to know about Green House Effect, Melting of snow at poles etc etc.... those were very important information... but now it’s time to take action to rectify the existing condition... not for more space research..... Today we have enough information about our environment..
Instead of spending money in exploring, we should go for the Primary Needs of the day.... Plantation... Housing for poors... and much more....

Of course the needs of people on earth comes first. But, few people are doing wonderful in their field. It’s their work to explore. To hinder it means repressing our curiosity to know. It is gradual and natural that today scientists are trying to look outside the confines of earth.

And anyway things are herd and perceived first by human. Thoughts come first before they convert themselves in material. You can’t say it’s illogical to solve herd mysteries. Thinkers should not be abused. They hold a great place in history.
