Yes # People can already buy and sell human sperm, eggs, bone marrow and blood. Why draw the line at kidneys and other organs?
# Allowing people to sell off their organs to ease the growing shortage of donated organs will help patients who die waiting.
# This a question of life and death so morals and ethics should be kept out of it.
No # This system would be abused, and the poor would be exploited to sell their kidneys or other vital organs.
# Putting a price on an organ is just wrong. Any one willing to donate should do that voluntarily.

Yes, it may be a good idea only if the organs can be grown in labs.

Definitely. The organ market should be made legal. It will get rid of exploitation of the ignorant poor, who will get a better price.

An organ bazaar would benefit the rich and powerful, the weak will only become weaker.
Should such trades be permitted, then why do we need a civil society?
Why not revert back to the brutal laws of nature, where only the fittest survive.
Should science succeed in growing organs (@ Jonty), then possibly a shopping centre or a Mall could be opened to market the product.
But if that does not happen, a market for real organs taken off from real people is a Draculian concept of survival.
Many suffer from incurable diseases with decaying organs and transplants could prolong their lives, but voluntary donation of organs should be the only civil practice for such conditions.
Despite the views expressed here, a flourishing global organ market exists and not much is being done to check trading in this human commodity.

Legalizing the organ trade would not only help the needy-rich but also the poor, as they would be paid properly. Unlike today where still the poor are the main victim of organ trafficking, legalizing the organ trade would also lead to better research and development in this area.
Of course, it is a valid argument that why should one pay through his body if he is poor. But legalizing would help it answer better as law of demand and supply will make it fair as much as possible.
But it should be kept in mind that government need to be more vigil than ever when organ trade is legalized. Not only it’s duty will be to ensure that person selling or donating his organ is made aware of the effect of his action, but also that no doctor or hospital start exploiting the patients as now they can openly take it as a business.

Regulating the selling of organs is most likely to be commercialized in the black market. Even if other people will say no to this, still when it is legalized, the poor society will be abused.
I think what should be done is to make people more aware of the situation, the need and the number of patients dying everyday for them to voluntarily donate their organs.
Campaigns on preventive measures on keeping our bodies healthy should be strengthened rather than always finding solutions to ailing individuals. If diseases can be prevented, then there is no need for organ donation and transplant.
