# The percentage of the world’s population living on less than $1 per day has halved in twenty years. However, most of this improvement has occurred in East and South Asia.
# The world is on course to halve extreme poverty by 2015, but Africa will fall far short of the U.N.’s Millennium Development Goals.
# Purchasing parity of a 1$ wage in 1990 has lost out to inflation in 2008, which renders the millennium development goal about extreme poverty meaningless.

India and China are the best performers in reducing the poverty rates and the largest reduction in poverty rates was supported by the strongest growth. The emerging economic powerhouses, China and India, have showed the way to other African nations.

No, it is working but mainly dependent on the work done by the respective governments in third world countries. African countries are facing obstacles to initiate and implement policies for the welfare of the poor people due to the absence of democratic structure.

Not every African country is showing negative growth, there has been strong growth in several other countries in sub-Saharan Africa region. We can see the significant progress in poverty reduction in coming 10 years.

The whole world is facing food crisis and financial problems due to the rising fuel prices. Rising food and fuel prices have lowered the saving income of households. Poor people are having less nutritious food. People living in countries like Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, and Zambia are living life with under-five malnutrition and mortality rates. In this part of the world, the millennium goal has been failed.

Climate change is the major cause of the failure of Millennium development goal in most of the part of world. Climate change is affecting food insecurity in African continent and causing the spread of disease like malaria and diarrhoea. the developed countries should extend the hands of support to the African countries to get the fruits of growth, development and environmental sustainability in other part of the world.

You cannot blame United Nations projects for the failure of the MDGs in African region. it is the duty of a country to provide clean drinking water, healthcare and adequate sanitation for the larger part of the population, otherwise they will have no option but to be failed to meet most of the MDGs.

These countries need more aids from developed countries and domestic resources as well to meet such high profile goals. Hunger and malnutrition are the biggest obstacles and other goals including maternal health, infant mortality and education are next in line.

South Asian countries are not far behind than African countries. South Asia has the highest rate of child malnutrition. Countries in South Asian region haven't yet meet the goals and they are likely to fall short on the goals of education and child mortality. Economies are growing but the lack of progress in reducing child malnutrition is creating more troubles.

How can you blame poor countries for not becoming rich and not meeting the goals by their own? The international development assistance, which was estimated at $103.7bn in 2007, fell short compared to previous year. the G8 countries failed to fulfill its promise to promises to double aid by 2010. Rich countries had gave twice as much of their income for the welfare of poor countries in 1963 than they have given in 2007.

Political disturbances in several countries are disturbing the process of poverty elimination program and the lack of political will-power is another major problem. As many as 18 countries in Africa are showing strong economic growth of about 5.5% growth for past ten years. But 20 other countries are facing different ethnic and religious conflict and showing low growth at mere 2% per anum only.

The MDGs are still being implemented but there should also be social interaction and personal conviction among poor countries to find solutions within themselves in relation to the existing problems that we have now.
Foreign assistance will certainly be limited and reducing poverty will continue to be a long-standing problem if we will all be waiting for solutions and not acting upon whatever we can do as of the moment.
African nations should firstly be educated on family planning, early parenting and sexual reproduction to reduce population explosion.
